Spring is here, and boating season will soon be here as well! We held our annual Member meeting on January 30, 2024, and wanted to provide the membership with some Club updates. The new officers were nominated and elected, and some minor by-law changes were recommended and passed. Board members from the Charleston Boat Corporation were also present at the annual meeting and provided some exciting news. Charleston Boat Corporation shares of stock are now being offered for purchase to Boat Club members! Additional details regarding these shares are provided below!
The first Board of Governors meeting of 2024, with the new administration, was held on February 19, 2024. Additional members have been appointed, and we are excited to introduce the new team. We are pleased to have a great mix of volunteers who have previously served as well as members with new and fresh ideas. However, we would also like to hear from you about any ideas you have or if you are able to volunteer to help with work parties to help improve the Club. We are also still seeking volunteers to help with social events at the Club. We enjoy having gatherings at the Club and getting to know one another, but we really need someone to lead this committee to organize social events.
We are keeping a close eye on the weather, and we expect to see a break in temperatures in the coming days and weeks. The anticipated date that the water will be turned is March 28th, but no later than the end of March. We know everyone is anxious to clean their vessels.
Please be reminded that all mooring members are required to purchase liability insurance on their boat and provide a Certificate of Insurance listing the Charleston Boat Club, Inc. as an additional insured party. Listing the Club as an additional insured party does not incur any additional cost to you. The only action required on your part is to contact your insurance provider and ask for the Club to be added and ask for a copy of the document. It is extremely important that you submit your certificate of insurance to Jacob Ferrell at the Harbor House. We must have these certificates on file for every vessel mooring at the Club.
As we look into the future, please know that the Board of Governors continuously strives to strategically plan to maintain our docks and Harbor House so the Club can remain the premier marina on the Kanawha River. There were many significant improvements made last year and our focus this year will be planning for future dock replacements. Our board meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, and we welcome and encourage Club members to attend. Our club is only successful through the volunteer efforts and service of its members. If you have suggestions or ideas for improvement, please do not hesitate to let us know and most importantly, have a safe and fun boating season!
